Slate chippings are easy-care and cost-efficient aggregates perfect for ground covering for garden and landscape projects.

Our Plum Slate Chippings are an incredibly high strength material and therefore are very hard-wearing. They are an ideal solution for adding some colour to your garden and patio area throughout all seasons.

The slate looks great in both wet and dry weather conditions and turns into a richer, darker hue when wet. Our Plum Slate 40mm will create a refreshed, stylish look and complement the patio slabs beautifully, creating a relaxing and pleasing space. The slates are also suitable for garden rockeries and aquatic projects and water features such as ponds and outdoor aquariums creating a beautiful depth and dimension.

Slate chippings are essentially used to block weeds from growing by creating a strong barrier and preventing the compost from splashing back onto the leaves during watering. A weed membrane can easily be laid beneath the slate to block weeds emerging. Slate chippings keep the landscape of your house looking tidy and neat. Not only that, but slate chippings are also a great solution if you want to retain the solis’ moisture and it also can cool the soil, which helps plants to survive high temperatures. It also takes in heat and reflects the sunlight, which helps to lighten shaded areas and provides even light distribution for plants.

Slate chippings are low maintenance and cost-effective products that are also substantial and versatile in use. Whether you use them for big or small areas, they are not easy to discolour and request minimal to no care. 

A sub-base is not always necessary while using slate chippings for areas where there’s no foot traffic (gardens, planting areas etc) however, we would recommend applying a layer of weed prevention membrane beneath the slate chippings layer anyway. The membrane helps with improving the water drainage.

Slate chippings can be cleaned by power-washing but rain does a great job as well.
